Mom Mom's Pasta Sauce

My husband’s mama is a great cook and share this simple pasta sauce recipe with me years ago.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil

  • 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1 tsp. pepper

  • 2 Tbsp. sugar

  • 2 29 oz. cans tomato sauce

  • 1/4 tsp. oregano

  • handful fresh basil, thinly chopped

  • handful fresh parsley, chopped

  • Fresh Parmesan cheese, grated

Preparation

  1. In a large saucepan saute garlic and onion in olive oil for about 3 minutes.

  2. Add salt, pepper, and sugar then cans of tomato sauce. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer.

  3. Add herbs and cheese and allow sauce to simmer for up to one hour over very low heat.

Add cooked Italian sausage, meatballs, or ground beef for a meat sauce.

This sauce can be used with store bought ravioli, served over spaghetti, or as the base to meatball subs.

Slow Cooker Method:

Saute garlic and onions in olive oil, add to slow cooker. Add all other ingredients and cool on low for 8 hours.
