Halfway Homemade Skillet Apple Pie

IMG_6081.jpeg

I love a good halfway homemade dessert. One that takes little time to prepare but yet tastes like it took hours.

With this recipe we are using mostly basic store bought ingredients but spicing it up with a shot of moonshine and a homemade crumb topping. So pull out your iron skillet and let’s get cooking!

Yes, make this pie right in your little iron skillet and serve it hot with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

I love iron skillets for all my cooking. I used to have a very nice set of expensive, fancy cookware. But after I fell in love with my iron skillets, I pretty much gave all that old cookware away (someone, somewhere should feel very blessed!!)

Iron skillets are very versatile. Use them on the stovetop, in the oven, over the campfire, or on top of the new outdoor griddles. If you have never had cornbread, biscuits, or apple pie out of an iron skillet you are not really living.

But in all seriousness, you can totally make this pie in a pie pan too.

Halfway Homemade Skillet Apple Pie

Ingredients

1 refrigerator pie crust

1 can apple pie filling

1 shot Apple Pie Moonshine

3 Tbsp. cold butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup flour

1/4 cup oats

1 Tsp. cinnamon

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and get out an 8” iron skillet (a pie pan works too though)

2. Roll out the refrigerator pie crust and trim it to fit the bottom and sides of the skillet. Trim off excess.

3. Pour the apple pie filling into the crust and add the shot of moonshine.

4. In a bowl combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, and cinnamon. Grate or dice the cold butter and add it to the mixture.

5. Pour mixture into a food processor and pulse a few time until mixture comes together in a crumble. If you don’t have a food processor just mash it together with two forks!

6. Spread crumble mixture over pie filling and bake for 25-30 minutes.

7. Serve warm, straight out of the skillet! Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Share with others- or eat it all. No judgement here!!!
