Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Psalm 34:8

When we gather as sisters in Christ, beautiful things happen. Initially, when I had the thought to host a brunch at a local flower farm, my dream was to create community. Followed by the ideas of sharing beautiful brunch boards, partnering with River & Roots to create lovely floral arrangements, and sharing our gifts and talents with other women.

But something more beautiful that all the above happened. Every soul was fed. Laughter and smiles were everywhere, friendships were established, and as one of my new friends said, “guards were down.” The weather was beautiful, every flower arrangement was different and lovely, just like every friend present.

We gathered in the sweet morning air to the sound of joyful music and kind greetings. Everyone chose their seat around one long table set for 40 people. Sydney, from River & Roots had gorgeous buckets of flowers, natural elements, and greenery to create the arrangements base. She gave a short demo on arranging and then put our guests to work. After the bulk of the arrangements were created, guests ventured into the gardens to cut their own flowers to add to their arrangements. I should add that each guest brought their own vase from home, which added the most eclectic element of beauty. The variety and difference of each arrangement was astonishing.

After arrangements were completed, we brought out the Brunch Boards full of homemade biscuits, pumpkin muffins, pound cake, and homemade fig jam. The boards also included local honey, farm fresh eggs, maple peppered bacon, sliced ham, fruit, veggies, nuts and bagels. As I blessed the food and prayed over each soul there I had to hold back tears and I felt that quiver in my voice as I was so blessed and my heart was so thankful.

We ate, lingered, had plenty of time for photos and conversations. I overheard one lady say to another, “this is so good for the soul.” At that moment my heart was overflowing with joy. The kind of joy that longs for another Gathering.

Creating a Brunch Board

Creating a brunch board doesn’t have to be time consuming, costly, or complicated.

Tips for the perfect Brunch Board

  1. Start with your bread- Choose two options, one more savory and one on the sweeter side. Muffins, bagels, french bread, biscuits all are great options.

  2. Add a protein. Bacon can be cooked the night before and easily reheated for bunch. Ham slices, and hard boiled eggs are also great options.

  3. Fruit! Use what’s in season. For fall, think apple slices (pre-soaked in Sprite to prevent them turning brown.) Pomegranate seeds, sugared cranberries, and pears (treat them the same as apples if slicing) all make good options.

  4. Dried fruits, nuts and cheeses are good fillers

  5. Veggies such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and avocados.

  6. . Don’t forget the spreads such as butter, honey, or jam.

Make it a Theme

  1. Waffle Brunch boards- waffles, toppings such as fruit, jams, chocolate chips and whipped cream. Add eggs and bacon and make it a meal.

  2. Pancake boards- stack your board with different flavors of pancakes, syrups, whipped butters and fruit toppings. Add yogurt, granola, and sausage links to complete your board.

  3. California Style Brunch Board- Soft boiled eggs, ham slices, sprouts, avocado spread, tomatoes, soft cheese, and a variety of breads.
